In his sportscars and all other designs, Maarten does almost everything, including a lot of engineering. This is something I recognize in myself too. Maarten taught me how I could use this interest to effectively communicate with specialist engineers, who often have very specific specializations. This allows them to determine if your plan will work in their field, but not if their way is the best way of executing your design. This requires me to understand all the experts and being able to compare their insights. Maarten introduced this to me.
My passion for automotive design led me to Maarten de Bruijn, the former designer behind Spyker cars. In spring 2023, I got the opportunity to work for him on his Ferox V8 as an intern, while he was setting up deBruynCars . Working for Maarten was inspiring to me in a number of ways. He showed me how my hands can create shapes no modern CAD programmer comes up with: such as irregularly progressing curves.
