Three methods are used to answer this question: Observation, questionnaire and testing of the prototype. The questionnaire gave more insight into what mothers feel from their fetus during pregnancy. Kicking was the most frequent and was also perceived as the most valuable interaction. Based on these outcomes a prototype was made that was used to research how kicking can be simulated outside of the artificial womb. With these results a requirements list was created

Premature birth is the biggest cause of death among newborns, which is why the artificial womb is in development. However, there is not yet a solution for the bonding problem that will arise when the neonate is separated from the mother. Thus, the goal of this study was to create a list of requirements for an artefact outside of the artificial womb to make the bonding process between mother and neonate as effective as possible.
